The NPR basins were ranked according to the diversity, abundance, and complexity of physical metrics observed within NPR river systems, as well as anthropogenic influences. Each metric was scaled from 01 and ranked from best to worst. Eight different ranking schemes using different combinations of metrics were considered (see below for descriptions). We then scored the variables for each river in relation to all the rivers in the data base for each of these 8 rankings.
